How to Get Over a Broken Heart

Q:I broke up with my partner and I know I will experience some grief, but how do I get over a broken heart?

A: It takes time to get over your broken heart, and here are some things you can do to start feeling better:

  • Stay busy
  • Avoid "old reminders" which tend to make you mood and you brood over
  • Get rid of old cards, photographs, gifts that make you sad. You only punish yourself by keeping them around
  • Stay in the present, don't think about the past
  • Do something for someone else every day

Take the focus off yourself, keep busy, and do for others and your heart will heal faster.

Good luck. I hope you start feeling better soon.
