Is my girlfriend a gold-digger?

Q:My friends keep telling me that my girlfriend is a gold-digger. Of course, I am older, she is younger, and I am wealthy so I give her what ever makes her happy. Friends tell me she shows off the credit card I gave her, and all the things she buys, and she rubs it in their faces that she has so many expensive clothes, jewelry and a new car. She tells her family and friends to be nice to me because I'm rich. But when she's with me, she makes me happy. So how do I know if she is a real gold-digger?

A: The dictionary definition of a gold-digger is "a woman who tries to get gifts and money from a man". Some of the red flags are statements like "if you really loved me, you would....", or "prove you love me by giving me...". Gold-diggers have also been described as "bottomless pits", no matter how much you give them, they always want more, and never seem to be satisfied, or "filled up". The fact that you are questioning the motives of your girlfriend tells me you already know the answer in your heart, even if you haven't intellectually acknowledged it.

I recommend a heart-to-heart discussion with your girlfriend. And listed to that small voice inside of you that sometimes is hard to find when you are in love and passion is ruling.

Good luck, let me know how your relationship works out.
